Surat-Al-Hijr 5-19 Introduction

Surat-Al-Hijr

Introduction V. 1-5 and 94-99

Hijr- Means a restricted path, a path that restricts you to one direction and one destination. Hijr also means the mind, and if we have understanding of what is correct we will never let ourselves go to what is incorrect. We have emotions and reason in ourselves to help us make decisions, emotions drive us and our mind, or intellect restricts the driving of the emotions they serve as the brake and the steering wheel. Our emotions tell us to go any and everywhere to follow our desires, our Aquel (intellect/Hijr) it keeps us on the path to let us reach our destination. There is also Hijr Isma’il which is the semi-circle part on the north side of the Kab’ah. read more

Surat-Al-Hijr 5-26 V. 1-15

Surat-Al-Hijr

V. 1-15

The theme of Surat-Al-Hijr is the way in which Allah (SWT) preserves the Deen, He (SWT) will even at times go to the extent of destroying the unbelievers in order to preserve the Deen, so we find many stories of nations that were destroyed because they wanted to wipe out the Deen of Allah (SWT). If the believers do what they are supposed to do then they are protected and preserved, but if not they face the consequences of their wrong doing.

The surah has five main topics:

Surat-Al-Hijr 6-9 V. 9-42

Surat-Al-Hijr

V. 9-42

This surah shows 15 examples of how Allah (SWT) preserves His Deen, His Book, and the believers.

One example is v. 9

V. 9- “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.”

We see that the Qur’an has been preserved in all of its forms:

  • Text- in Arabic, memorized in the hearts of believers
  • Meaning- scholars watch one another, guard meanings from deviation- If the scholars agreed on one meaning for a verse, this would lead to deviation, even the Sahaba were watching one another to guard against deviation in understanding of the meaning of the Qur’an
  • Practice- A group of Muslims will always remain on the straight path for all time, also even Muslims who do wrong know it is wrong, they don’t try to change the deen

    Surat-Al-Hijr

    V.26-60

The theme of the surah is Allah’s preservation of the Deen. Just as He preserves and provides for His creation, He also preserves and provides for His Deen.

    V. 26-44- And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.” So the angels prostrated – all of them entirely, Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. [ Allah ] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?” He said, “Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud.” [ Allah ] said, “Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense.” He said,”My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.” [ Allah ] said, “So indeed, you are of those reprieved Until the Day of the time well-known.” [Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all Except, among them, Your chosen servants.” [ Allah ] said, “This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. Indeed, My servants – no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated.” read more

    Surat-Al-Hijr 6-23 v.57-87

    Surat-Al-Hijr

    V. 57-87

Ibraheem (AS) was in Palestine and Lut (AS) was in the area of the Dead Sea. Lut (AS) is a prophet but he is under the authority of Ibraheem (AS). Lut’s people had started a new evil way of life, and they even forced their way of life on other people. They also had blocked Lut and Ibraheem (AS) from spreading the message of Islam. The only way for them to be able to continue with their mission was for Allah (SWT) to remove these people. Ibraheem and Lut (AS) didn’t realize they had hit a “road block” with these evil people. Allah (SWT) sent the angels to inform them (Ibraheem and Lut (AS)) and to destroy these evil people. read more

    Surat-Al-Hijr

    V.68-87

    V. 68-79- “[Lot] said, “Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. And fear Allah and do not disgrace me.” They said, “Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?” [Lot] said, “These are my daughters – if you would be doers [of lawful marriage].” By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. So the shriek seized them at sunrise. And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.”And the companions of the tree were [also] wrongdoers. So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.” read more

Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers”
