This surah is named for the honey bee. The naming of the surahs is given to the Prophet (S) by Jibreel (AS) from Allah (SWT). Since the name is chosen by Allah (SWT) the name gives us the theme of the surah. Every surah is linked by one word. The shorter the title of something the more skilled the one who names it is with the language. This is why every surah is named in one single word, and Allah (SWT) chooses a word that carries all of the meanings of the surah. Sometimes Allah (SWT) even names a surah with just one letter. For us to be effective in communicating with others we have to be able to convey things in a concise way. The name of this surah is an excellent example of this. If we study the life of the honey bee we will never finish, they are fascinating and complex creatures. This surah is filled with so many aspects related to the signs of a honey bee. There is a hadith that the Prophet (S) says that a believer is like a honey bee. One way is that is makes honey and has a stinger, so it produces beneficial things but also has the means to protect it. Also the bees are very well organized with each one doing its role. The bee also though it has a stinger is so gentle when it lands on a flower. We as a believer should be like this when we interact with the people. The honey bees take the nectar and then produce so many good things so a believer should only take the good things in this life and produce more good things from it. Honey bees are all united. The more we know about honey bees, the more we know about this surah, and the more we know about Allah (SWT) then the more we will know how we are supposed to be as believers.
